I was picking around on my drive (checking that I had backups of everything) when I came across this model that I made a couple of years ago. I still consider it one of my best (though it's untextured and I never got the smoke to look right) and so felt it should be in the gallery. So here's a compilation of some renders of the Airship Pickle, named after the HMS Pickle which (barely) participated in the Battle of Trafalgar. I just like the name, especially considering the names of the other ships there: Victory, Neptune, Leviathan, Colossus, Thunderer... and Pickle ^^ Chains and gears are set up to animate easily with the speed of each propeller controlled individually. Here's a flyaround to show how she looks in action: [link] As usual, photobucket video quality isn't the best, but you get the idea.
edit: I don't know why that link comes out screwy. Seems it goes to my gallery on photobucket rather than straight to the video. Seems DA can't link to a url with an emoticon code as part of it. Changing filename and re-uploading it should fix it...
I love it - love the slight pressure making the airbag swell between the ropes. Do you sell your models? I need on like this for my next picture and I can't model to save my life!
Very nice design for an airship. I'm assuming it's a personal craft and not a cargo/passenger ship? I like how the airbag is contained by the rope net. I designed a steam powered airship as well. Mine has the exhaust from the boiler as the source for the hot air in the balloon. I figured that the exhaust would be filtered so that the cinders wouldn't damage the bag.
This is by far my favorite airship on DeviantArt. Perhaps the best aspect of it is the color scheme. I've seen many airships with extremely well-crafted design which lose "points" simply because the colors do not mesh well. In short, bravo.
P.S, I can't stop watching this baby in motion! Hooray for the mighty Pickle!!!
Glad you like Actually I think it could have done with a bit of low key texturing. I was just sick of working on it by the time I got it to this stage, so I never got around to it
But its really sweet regardless.
Very Nice.
